Why Choose a Large Fire Pit Table
Seats More People: Large fire pit tables comfortably accommodate 6 to 12 guests, making them perfect for group gatherings, larger families, and frequent entertainers. A 48–60" model handles 6–8 guests; 72–84" models work for 10+.
Higher Heat Output: Larger burner pans translate to higher BTU output — typically 55,000–90,000 BTUs vs. 40,000–55,000 on smaller models. The result is meaningful warmth across a wider seating zone, not just the immediate burner area. Critical for cooler climates and shoulder-season use.
Statement-Making Design: A large fire pit table isn't just functional — it becomes the anchoring focal point of the entire patio. Round, square, or rectangular, these tables turn the outdoor space into a destination instead of an afterthought.
One Big Piece vs. Multiple Small Ones: A single large fire table often replaces several smaller patio furniture pieces (separate fire pit + coffee table + side tables) with one statement piece — cleaner aesthetics and often better total value.
How to Choose the Right Large Fire Pit Table
Size & Footprint: Large fire pit tables typically range from 48" up to 84"+ in length or diameter. Match the size to your actual patio space — allow at least 3 feet of clearance on all sides for safe seating and circulation. A 72" rectangular table needs a footprint roughly 12 feet wide once seating is accounted for.
Shape: Rectangular large fire pit tables work best with long sectionals or dining-style seating, creating a wide flame display along the length. Round and square designs offer 360-degree access for symmetrical seating arrangements — better when you want guests on all sides of the fire.
Materials: Large fire pit tables get heavy. Concrete fire pit tables from Elementi (GFRC construction) and marble porcelain models from the Elementi Plus line offer premium aesthetics and serious weight for stability. The Outdoor GreatRoom Company offers large models in powder-coated metal, Supercast concrete, and mosaic tile finishes.
Fuel Type: Due to higher BTU demands, choose carefully between propane powered fire pit and natural gas configurations. Large propane fire pit tables typically include hidden tank storage that fits a 20-lb cylinder, though some commercial-scale models use 30-lb tanks. Natural gas large models connect directly to your home's line and require a licensed installer.
Height Configuration: Most large fire pit tables sit at coffee-table height (18–24" tall) for lounging. If you want a large table for actual meals, look at fire pit dining tables at 28–30" tall for dining-chair compatibility.
Accessories Included or Required: Look for matching burner lids (convert the table into a fully usable surface when the fire isn't lit), glass wind guards (essential for breezy locations), and protective covers (almost always sold separately on premium brands). Wind guards in particular become more important on larger tables where the wide flame is more exposed.
Frequently Asked Questions
What qualifies as a "large" fire pit table?
Generally, fire pit tables 48" and larger in length or diameter fall into the large category. They support 6+ guests, offer significantly higher BTU output than smaller models, and create a stronger visual anchor for the patio. Tables 72"+ are sometimes called "extra large" and typically seat 10–12.
Do large fire pit tables require professional delivery or installation?
Often yes. Heavier large fire pit tables — especially concrete and stone-finish models — can weigh 300–500+ lbs and may require multiple people or curbside-only delivery. Natural gas models always require a licensed gas technician to connect to your home's gas line.
How much space should I allow around a large fire table?
Maintain at least 3 feet of clearance on all sides for safe circulation and seating comfort. For an 84" rectangular table, plan for a total patio area of roughly 14×7 feet once chairs and walking space are accounted for.
Can I use a large fire pit table commercially?
Yes. Many large fire pit tables are designed for use in restaurants, hotels, resorts, and shared residential spaces. Check individual product specs for commercial certifications if your installation requires them — some models from Elementi Plus and The Outdoor GreatRoom Company are explicitly rated for commercial use.
Are large fire pit tables harder to light or operate?
Not really — large fire pit tables use the same push-button electronic ignition or manual battery sparker systems as smaller models. The main practical difference is that larger burners use more propane, so a 20-lb tank lasts fewer hours of full-flame operation (typically 5–8 hours on 65,000+ BTU models).
What's the difference between a large fire pit table and a fire pit dining table?
Size and height. Large fire pit tables are defined by footprint (48"+ length or diameter) but typically sit at coffee-table height for lounging. Fire pit dining tables are defined by height (28–30" tall for dining-chair use) regardless of footprint. You can have both — a large fire pit dining table — but they target different uses.
