• Stones are the thermal mass that makes a sauna a sauna: the heater warms them, they hold the heat, and water thrown on them flashes to steam instead of hitting bare metal.
• HUUM specifies rounded olivine, not the split-face stones other brands use — rounded suits the open HUUM baskets and gives a milder steam.
• Check which size your heater calls for. CLIFF and STEEL take 3-5 cm; DROP, HIVE, CORE and the wood stoves take 5-10 cm.
• Stack loosely by hand, largest at the bottom, so air moves freely between them.
• Re-stack once a year and replace any that have cracked or crumbled.

Why rounded stones instead of split-face?

HUUM designs around rounded olivine. They suit the open stone baskets, give a milder steam, and look right in a heater where the stones are the visible part of the product. Split-face stones are the norm for enclosed heaters from other brands.
